As a composer, Tom has previously been comissioned for stage, short film and advert, as well as numerous compositions for percussion solos and groups, particularly within educational fields. His compositional skills inevitably permeate into the band work which he undertakes and he is very much interested in the group process, as well as the traditional perception of the "composer-dictator". A great piece is greater than the sum of its parts!

Tom has a special interest in developing new roles and relationships for percussion and is currently focusing on incorporating tuned percussion into the rock ensemble as part of his ongoing PhD research; this work can be heard through his project Thing.
